project purpose

understand communal collaboration and knowledge sharing in informal design to shift design as a profession into a service accessible to people in need and not a luxury for a few

project definition

the project explores how a peripheral neighborhood of Barcelona, meets its needs through collaboration and grassroots creativity with special attention to latin american migrant communities to understand how informal, unrecognized design practices shape everyday life.

by engaging with local associations involved in urban and socioeconomic initiatives to understand and document the organic forms of collaboration in the neighborhood, the project aims to provide a framework for a shared resource knowledge network with focus on fabrication and problem solving, to shift the mainstream perception of the design discipline into a public service that responds to the realities of those often left out of traditional design conversations.
